Spittelberg

Valérie Sajdik and Cédric Chauveau will unveil their new album Amitiés in the intimate setting of the Theater am Spittelberg, in the heart of Vienna This venue, renowned for its eclectic and refined programming, will host an evening of musical encounters and sharing on 11 June.

An album as a manifesto

Amitiés is not an album like any other: it is a true tribute to diversity, freedom and peace in a pluralistic Europe.

Through songs in French and German, Valérie Sajdik and Cédric Chauveau celebrate friendship in all its forms, forging links between cultures and generations.

The album, recorded in the south of France in Occitania, bears the mark of this region dear to the artists, and proudly claims a 100% Occitan identity – without artifice, full of freshness and authenticity.

Genesis of a cross-border project

This project came about thanks to the passionate commitment of the Association Allemagne-Occitanie, L’Europe au Cœur, chaired by Richard Jarry, which has been working since 2018 to strengthen cultural exchanges between Occitanie and Germany.

Supported by numerous institutional partners, this collective effort has resulted in an album that brings together the repertoires and sensibilities of two great European musical traditions.

A long-standing collaboration

The partnership between Valérie Sajdik, an Austrian singer with a luminous voice, and Cédric Chauveau, a French pianist with an elegant style, has been built up over more than ten years of collaboration.

For this new album, their duo has been enriched by the presence of Michel Altier on double bass and Samuel Devauchelle on drums, bringing a new dimension to their musical universe.

An eclectic and daring repertoire

Their programme revisits classics from the French and German repertoire with finesse and originality – from Brassens to Trenet, Barbara to Nougaro – while offering unexpected twists, such as a French version of Herbert Grönemeyer’s hit Mensch, or a reggae reinterpretation of the famous Tout va très bien, Madame la Marquise.

Two original compositions, Larzac and C’est fantastique, also testify to their creativity and humour.

Crossed paths

Valérie Sajdik, a staunch European, divides her time between Occitanie and Vienna, drawing inspiration from both worlds.

Cédric Chauveau, meanwhile, collaborates with artists from all over the world, constantly enriching his approach to jazz and song.

Presentation of the album Amitiés at the Theater am Spittelberg Valérie Sajdik and
