The duo Val\u00e9rie Sajdik (voice) and C\u00e9dric Chauveau (piano), unite in a singular musical universe two rich backgrounds of music and cultural crossbreeding. They present a first album that is characterized by their sense of melody and their taste for poetry.<\/p>

In mainly English songs, but also some French ones, Valerie and Cedric tell stories of staggering tightrope walkers, sleepwalkers, dreamers of stars, drunkards in denial and Baudelaire\u2019s dog who won\u2019t let himself be done.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Since Valerie\u2019s last album,\u00a0\u201cLes Nuits Blanches<\/em>\u201d<\/strong>, on which she sang her sleepless nights in the form of jazzy songs, some time has passed. The artist, who lives in the south of France and in Vienna, Austria, has not yet completely overcome her insomnia, and so new songs have emerged, for example during\u00a0her concerts in New York at the legendary Cabaret Sabarsky<\/strong>\u00a0with her Kurt Weill repertoire, as well as during her trips to France.<\/p>

Her musical accomplice, co-composer and arranger, is the French jazz pianist\u00a0C\u00e9dric Chauveau<\/strong>, whose trio album\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s only a Papermoon<\/a>\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0was rated\u00a0\u201cRevelation<\/a>\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0by the French Jazz Magazine.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

After a musical roadtrip in different genres, Valerie has landed, without compromise and without net, with\u00a0the album \u201cFunambule<\/em>\u201d<\/strong>. The fact that life remains a tightrope act in this process is another question and constitutes the thematic arc of this album.<\/p>

From her beginnings with the electronic jazz project \u201cSaint Privat\u201d to her solo hit\u00a0\u201cRegen<\/a>\u201d<\/strong>,<\/em> where she was to be marketed as a variety starlet, one can always hear the love for jazz in all her songs.<\/p>

And in this album \u201cFunambule<\/em>\u201d, she reconciles herself with her diversity and her supposed contradictions. With Cedric, she\u00a0re-records her German hit\u00a0\u201c<\/strong>Regen<\/em>\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0in a jazzy English version.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Masha Kaleko<\/strong>\u00a0and her poem\u00a0\u201cTightrope walker without a net\u201d<\/strong> have been with Valerie not only since she discovered Kaleko\u2019s memorial plaque in New York\u2019s East Village and experienced a very moving moment. At the end of the day, what matters is to be understood. And to understand oneself. The many facets of Valerie have their say, find a common denominator and thus form the most personal, harmonious and stylistically pure album of her career so far.<\/strong><\/p>

On the other hand,\u00a0Cedric Chauveau\u2019s career path is quite linear<\/strong>. Since his encounter with jazz, he has never stopped trying to deepen his musical expression, which is largely impregnated with blues, swing and gospel. However, he is not closed to other musical styles, quite the contrary, and is\u00a0enriched by each experience<\/strong>. He likes to melt into the universe of the artists he accompanies and brings his sense of harmonization and humor.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Blending French chanson with modern songs, it includes a French version of the 1982 Eurovision hit Ein bisschen Frieden<\/em><\/strong>, Mensch<\/strong><\/em> by Herbert Gr\u00f6nemeyer with lyrics by Camille, and tributes such as Comment te dire adieu<\/em><\/strong> (Fran\u00e7oise Hardy) and G\u00f6ttingen<\/em><\/strong> (Barbara).<\/p>

Other highlights include Tourbillon de la vie<\/em><\/strong> from Jules et Jim<\/em>, Le Fiacre<\/em><\/strong> by Yvette Guilbert, and Die Moritat von Mackie Messer<\/em><\/strong> by Kurt Weill with a French verse by Boris Vian.<\/p>
